Schnell Komposter S-750: 750 kg/day In-Vessel Commercial Food Waste Machine in UK

The Schnell Komposter S-750 is an in-vessel aerobic commercial food waste machine that processes up to 750 kilograms of food waste per day, converting all categories of catering food waste into nutrient-rich compost within 24 hours. The full Schnell Komposter commercial composting machine range is manufactured  and installed across the UK and Europe by 3R Urban Solutions UK.

At 750 kg per day, the S-750 commercial food waste machine processes 22,500 kg — 22.5 tonnes of food waste on-site each month. That volume never enters the external waste stream as food waste — it is processed entirely within the sealed in-vessel machine on your premises and exits as usable compost. No food waste collection contract is needed for the volumes the S-750 handles. No landfill tax is incurred. And the compost output is a resource rather than a disposal liability.

What the S-750 Commercial Food Waste Machine Accepts: Inputs and Exclusions

The S-750 processes the full range of commercial catering food waste without any pre-sorting requirement. Accepted inputs include all cooked food of any type, raw food preparation waste including vegetable peelings, fruit trimmings and salad offcuts, meat and poultry of all kinds including cooked bones, fish and shellfish including shells, dairy products, bread, pastry and baked goods, coffee grounds and filters, tea bags, eggshells, plate waste from dining service, and mixed kitchen preparation waste.

The internal operating temperature of 60 to 70 degrees Celsius ensures complete pathogen elimination in every 24-hour cycle, meeting the Animal By-Products Regulation standards required for the composting of catering waste that includes meat, fish and dairy. The output compost is safe, stable and immediately usable without further treatment.

Items that must not be loaded include packaging and wrapping materials of any kind, large structural bones such as femur bones from beef or pork, liquids in large volumes (stocks, oils, cooking liquids), and any non-food waste. A full accepted and excluded materials guide is provided to every customer at installation. To understand the biology behind why in-vessel composting reaches these temperatures and what it achieves, see our detailed guide: In-Vessel Aerobic Composting Explained.

Who the S-750 Commercial Food Waste Machine Is Designed For

The S-750 is a high-capacity industrial solution for very large food waste producers operating at scale: large NHS acute hospital campuses with multiple catering units, large university campus networks with centralised food waste streams, major hotel group estate-level installations serving multiple properties, large metropolitan council food waste management hubs, and large airport or stadium catering operations with predictable high-volume waste streams.

As part of a range that spans eleven capacity configurations from 25 kg per day to 2,000 kg per day, the S-750 represents a specific throughput point that 3R Urban Solutions UK matches carefully to each customer’s actual measured daily food waste volumes. We always recommend sizing for peak-day throughput rather than the daily average — a machine that cannot handle your busiest day creates exactly the compliance and operational problems you are trying to solve.

Read sector-specific guidance for the operations most commonly served by this capacity model:

  1. Nhs trusts and large healthcare campuses
  2. Universities and large educational institutions
  3. Councils and large public sector bodies

The 24-Hour In-Vessel Composting Commercial Food Waste Machine Cycle

Food waste from your kitchen or catering operation is collected throughout the day in designated food waste containers and loaded into the S-750’s sealed input chamber — typically once or twice per operational day. The machine’s managed aeration system maintains the optimal oxygen concentration required for aerobic microbial activity.

As naturally occurring microorganisms begin breaking down the organic material, the exothermic biological process generates heat, raising the internal vessel temperature to between 60 and 70 degrees Celsius. This temperature range delivers three simultaneous outcomes that make in-vessel aerobic composting so effective for commercial food waste: the process accelerates to completion within 24 hours; all pathogens, harmful bacteria and weed seeds present in the food waste are eliminated; and moisture is driven off from the material, producing a dry, stable compost rather than wet, odorous sludge.

At the end of the 24-hour cycle, finished compost is extracted from the output chamber. The volume removed is approximately 10% of the original food waste input weight — so 750 kg of food waste input produces around 75 kg of finished compost per day. The machine is immediately ready for the next loading cycle. There is no batch rest period, no cool-down time and no interruption to normal kitchen workflow. The entire composting process occurs within the sealed vessel with no odour emission during operation and no noise nuisance, making the S-750 appropriate for installation in service areas near occupied buildings, kitchen back-of-house areas or covered external yards.

Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Permitting

The Schnell Komposter S-750 commercial food waste machine fully satisfies the food waste management requirements of the Simpler Recycling regulations that came into force across England on 31 March 2025. Since food waste is processed entirely within the machine on your premises and never enters the external waste collection system as food waste, the S-750 provides complete compliance with the food waste separation and treatment requirements of the legislation. No separate food waste collection contract is required.

On-site composting of catering waste is regulated under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016. For the volumes processed by the S-750, a T23 registered exemption is the appropriate regulatory pathway. This is a registration process rather than a full environmental permit application, and 3R Urban Solutions UK guides every customer through it as part of the standard installation service at no additional charge.

Financial Case: What the S-750 Commercial Food Waste Machine Saves Your Business

A business processing 750 kg of food waste per day is currently managing 22,500 kg — 22.5 tonnes per month through a collection-based route. At UK commercial food waste collection rates of £80 to £150 per tonne, combined with the landfill tax standard rate of £126.15 per tonne for 2025-26 passed through in contractor pricing, the annual cost of managing this volume externally amounts to approximately £40,000 to £80,000 per year. That cost rises automatically with every future landfill tax increase — and increases have been consistent and significant in recent years.

The S-750 eliminates both the collection cost and the landfill tax exposure for the volumes it processes. The compost output — approximately 2,250 to 2,700 kg per month — has direct value for businesses with grounds, gardens or landscaping, replacing commercially purchased soil conditioners and growing media. Use our free Commercial Composting ROI Calculator to model your specific payback timeline based on your actual measured waste volumes and current disposal costs.
